 Dino Massaroni

Artist's Statement

"Since childhood, I have felt that realism in art has a powerful affect on people. I create visual illusions that honestly describe a subject's visible texture, and in so doing, the images honestly describe its hidden texture — its spirit. By rendering the appearance of a subject naturalistically, the viewer can experience people, places and things more truthfully than by other artistic methods of communication. I allow the vast amount of selected information in a work of art to speak for itself — to communicate in a 'language' so universal as to be understood by anyone."

Massaroni is a Charter Member of OPAS and the Portrait Society of America
http://www.portraitsociety.org  and a past president of the Akron Society of Artists.

Artist Biography:
Dino Massaroni began drawing at the age of four. His interest in art continued, and at fourteen, he began studying the painting and drawing methods of Robert Brackman via the teachings of Jack Richard in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. In 1973 Massaroni won the Edgar Roth Memorial Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship, enabling him to earn an Associate Degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. After gaining experience as a graphic designer and illustrator, Massaroni terminated his full-time employment as an art director to devote full time to painting. His studies continued; learning the methods of pastel painting with Albert Handell in Woodstock, New York. To supplement his formal art education, Massaroni studies the works of the Masters in the great museums of Paris, Rome and Florence as well as major museums in the United States and Canada. Through the influences provided by the works of many artists including Bouguereau, Winterhalter, Alma-Tadema, Waterhouse, Chase, Sargent, Zorn and Paxton, Massaroni has developed his own unique and disciplined approach to art and has consistently been recognized as a master of naturalism in such nationally renowned exhibits as the Butler Institute of American Art's Annual Midyear Show, Ohio; American Artists Professional League Annual, New York; Knickerbocker Artists Annual, New York; Akron Society of Artists Annual Grand Exhibition, Ohio; Allied Artists of America Annual, New York and the Pastel Society of America Annual, New York. His most notable solo exhibitions were displayed at the Butler Institute of American Art and the Canton Art Institute. Both Ohio museums are noted nationally for their penchant for American art. Massaroni's canvases display his ability as a master draftsman and instinctive colorist, while combining his acute sense of design and an impressionist's sensitivity to the effects of light. As a result of his naturalistic style, Massaroni has become a popular portrait painter with works in collections in Italy, Switzerland and the United States.
