The art of Carolyn Lewis
is inspired by nature, wildlife, and people. It is sensitive without
being overly sentimental. Her commissioned portraits of individuals and
animals, and her powerful landscapes, are steadily gaining acclaim in
national art circles.
In September 2005, Carolyn's first book entitled Land
and Light Workshop, Painting Mood and Atmosphere in Oils has been
released by North Light Books, and an accompanying video entitled
Painting Mood and Atmosphere has been released by Teaching Art,
Ltd. Carolyn is also published as one of 6 artists featured in
Artist's Photo Reference - Landscapes by Gary Greene, also
published by North Light Books, 2001. She has also written articles
published in Paint Magazine and had her work featured in
The Artist's Magazine.
Along with several solo exhibitions, Carolyn Lewis has been
selected to exhibit in local, regional and national art competitions.
These include the 2004 and 2005 Ohio Plein Air Society Nelsonville
Competition, 2005 Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters at Jackson Hole (WY)
and Winter Park, CO, the Carmel Art Festival Invitational Competition
2000-2004 in California, the Plein Air Tucson 2001 Invitational. Carolyn
also participated in the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club National
Exhibition 1998, ViewPoint National 1996-2000, Cincinnati Art Club (Ohio),
the Akron Society of Artists' Grand Exhibition (Ohio) from 1991 through
1995, National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society Annual in 1993 and Oil
Painters of America Annual in 1994, 1995, 2000 and the OPA Midwestern
Regional 1998 and many other local exhibitions.
Some of Carolyn's honors and awards include
an Honorable Mention from The Artist's Magazine 1998 National Landscape
Competition where she was ranked in the top 6 out of over 9000 entries.
Most recently she was awarded one of 12 finalists for month of April for
the 2005 Raymar Art Competition,"Best in Show" in the 2005 2nd Annual Ohio
Plein Air Society Paintout Competition and Honorable mention in 2004,
“Best of Show” at the 2005 Cuyahoga Valley Art Center's The Big Picture
Show. She was also selected as one of the top 200 finalists of the
prestigious National Art for the Parks Exhibition in Jackson Hole, Wyoming
in 1995, as well as winning "Best of Show" at the Cuyahoga
Valley Art Center Annual Members' Show,
(Ohio). She was one of 29 finalists in the Second Annual Winsor &
Newton National Calendar Competition in 1994, and was listed in the top 50
finalists in The Artist's Magazine 1991 National Portrait Competition.
Signature membership status includes: Cincinnati Art Club, Ohio; Ohio
Plein Air Society (Charter member); Akron Society of Artists, Ohio;
Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, Ohio; Oil Painters of America, Illinois;
Portrait Society of America (State Ambassador for Ohio); and The Portrait
Painters Guild, Ohio. Carolyn also has General membership status in the
American Impressionists Society, California.
