Ray Hassard grew up in the New York City area. He studied at Pratt
Institute, but more important, spent hours and hours in New York's
wonderful museums. Ray moved to Buffalo NY in 1977 and lived there for
eight years. He had several important commissions there, including a
very large piece (15' by 45') for the new subway system. In 1985, he
moved to Cincinnati. He started seriously painting en plein air around
2001, first in oils and then in pastels, his main medium.
His other interests include
travel (he has visited over 75 countries and is especially passionate
about India and Bangladesh), contra-dancing, and roller coaster riding.
In February 2007, Ray made his fifth trip
to India, along with Debra Joyce Dawson (her second time), and Debra's
husband Martin to paint en plein air. This time their travels took
them to the Kingdom of Bhutan, a paradise for painters! They are planning
to return to India and Bhutan in 2009.
RECENT AWARDS:
Ray won First Place in the Landscape/Interiors category of
Pastel Journal's annual competition for The Ketchup Trilogy. The April
