Artist Statement : "Landscape: These paintings are my joyous response to all the color and light in the visible world. My goal is to capture the ever-changing beauty of the landscape in paintings with bold, simple compositions. Boldness comes from painting with a large brush, combining strong value contrasts and dominant color themes. I strive to place each brushstroke in the right place the first time, so that the finished work shows the hand of the artist. Imagination: Paintings that paint themselves. I start by splashing wet color randomly on the paper, and looking for shapes and patterns that emerge. Then I start to pick and choose, emphasizing some colors or shapes, until a picture emerges. Artist Bio :
I teach painting at the Toledo Museum of
Art, and the Toledo Artists’ Club and demonstrate watercolor, oil and
pastel painting for the Toledo Museum of Art and various art clubs in
Northwest Ohio. My paintings have won many awards at the Parkwood Gallery
of the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, Spectrum Gallery, the
Toledo Artists' Club, the Northwest Ohio Watercolor Society Annuals, and
the Fifth-Third Bank Show in Toledo and have been accepted in juried
exhibitions including the 2005 and 2006 Watercolor Ohio Shows, Ohio
Watercolor Society, at the 42nd Annual June Art Exhibit, Wassenberg Art
Center, Van Wert Ohio, 1998 Annual All Ohio Juried Exhibition, Pearl
Conard Gallery, The Ohio State University at Mansfield, in 1998 & 2001 at
Tiffin University in one-man shows, in 2002 at the Period Gallery,
Watermedia IV, Omaha, Nebraska, 2004 in the Touchstone Gallery Sixth
Annual All Media Show, Washington, D.C., and the 2005 Annual Members Show,
Great Lakes Pastel Society, Grosse Point Art Center, Grosse Pointe Park,
Michigan.
