Artist Bio : "Open air painting is so enriching. When outside I’m drawn into a deeper sense of the beauty of the landscape. Capturing in paint some essence of God’s handiwork is an intriguing thrill. Shapes and colors change constantly via the elements, like a kaleidoscope turning as it is held up to the light. Sunlight and shadow, the movement of a breeze, even the scent of a place, makes painting en plein air so much more stimulating than painting from a photo. "I must work quickly to capture that flash of wonder the light reveals to me. This contributes to the energy that comes through in my painting. I even enjoy the unrefined look of the brush strokes and texture of paint that describes the landscape, yet also gives the viewer tactile awareness of the work itself. "I was raised in the “Religious Society of Friends”. Our way of worship is contemplative, where the congregation seeks together to hear the Word of God within. As I look outward, at the way light gives shape and color to a landscape, cityscape, face or figure, my experience of Christ as living Spirit and Creator enhances my own creative experience. "My painting is a celebration of light and color. Light is a metaphor of Christ the creator. Light reveals color, exposing immediate substance. It reveals depth and detail. Light communicates relationships, revealing nuances that continuously change, yet have a timeless source. "It is my privilege to be a participant in various juried artist shows, particularly OPAS, The Hoyt in New Castle PA (where I also teach a plein air class) and The Butler in Youngstown, Ohio. I also teach drawing and painting at the Boardman, Ohio, YMCA." Visit Nancy's painting
