Artist Statement:
Through
my paintings, I intend to recreate intrinsic emotions that are lost with
our hectic lifestyles of today, capturing what the camera cannot.
Born in 1956 and raised in a suburb of
Chicago, her formative art training didnt begin until after she, her
husband and child relocated to Cincinnati and began instruction at the Art
Academy of Cincinnati in 1984. Her work concentrated on figure and
portrait as she entered the academy, with a great admiration for Mary
Cassatt. Raising a family while beginning art studies, Joanne attended the
academy for almost a decade, receiving a First Year Honors Scholarship in
1989 and graduated Magnum Cum Laude in December, 1993, with a Bachelor of
Fine Arts Degree and Class Valedictorian. Throughout those years, her love
of French and American Impressionism grew, greatly influencing her oil
paintings and love for nature. Her artwork is currently held in many
private collections throughout the country and Canada, won several awards
including First Place Purchase Award at the Pyramid Hill Estate in
Hamilton, Ohio in 1993. Her works have been displayed at the Cincinnati
Offices of Senator DeWine and toured with the CINergy Collection form 1995
to 1999. Her first limited edition lithograph of Tomahawk Summer,
sponsored through a Lake Waynoka committee, won Honorary Mention from the
Behringer-Crawford Museum. Her present concentration is painting plein
air, with an impasto oil brushstroke, sold through the Rivers Edge
Gallery at the Greater Cincinnati Airport and can also be purchased
through the artist.
