Artist Bio:
Of this I have always
been certain, I was an artist who happened to be teaching mathematics.
Following college, I lived for two years in Kassel, Germany, I
drank in the European art around me in cathedrals, castles, museums, and
quaint countryside. Later while residing in Cleveland I discovered the
nascent Karamu House and there painted for a year, while teaching
full time. At last settling in Cincinnati and raising my three children,
I was able to pursue watercolor painting, studying with Ray Loos.
While a career teacher in public school, I structured time for evening and
summer classes at the Cincinnati Art Academy, returning to my first
love, oils. Upon retirement in 2000 I continued to expand my painting
experience, attending various courses and workshops. Club affiliations
have provided the opportunity to both exhibit and to have an active role
in the Cincinnati art community. We share growth in our painting skills,
time in sketch group and lazy summer days painting plein air. To
facilitate this interest I organized the SW Ohio Plein Air schedule for
weekly April – November paint outs. I have worked with the Evendale
Recreation Commission to bring the fine arts to northern Hamilton County
for our whole community to enjoy in the Annual Spring Evendale Fine
Arts Exhibit. I continue to pursue my art for its intrinsic ‘joy of
life’ and the pleasure it may bring to those around me. I am a member of
the Ohio Plein Air Society, the Indiana Plein Air Painters’ Assoc., as
well as the American Impressionist Society.
