OPAS Bylaws definition of Plein Air
Painting:
- It is the intention of this Society to foster
the tradition of plein air painting. We look to
artists in history, and in our own time, who have
carried the torch of plein air painting. We must be
mindful of the importance of plein air painting, its
rightful place, and its importance in the history of
art. Therefore, for purposes of exhibition our
members must think of their work as fitting into one
of the following three categories:
- Alla Prima -- completed in one session on
site. No work is done on the painting after
leaving the site.
- Completed on Site -- Completed on site in more
than one session. No work is done on the painting
after leaving the site.
- Plein Air -- 90% of the painting is completed
on site.
- No work from photographs done in the studio or
outdoors will
be acceptable.

2009 WORKSHOPS, DEMOS,
LECTURES

Sept. 14 - 17
OPAS sponsored
Carl Dalio
Workshop Flyer

Workshop Chair : Fran Mangino
writes:
I would like to annouce the OPAS
Competition at Lakeside Ohio in September. First prize
is $1000. Juror for the competition and also the Quick
Draw competition is Carl Dalio. At the Annual meeting,
OPAS flew Carl in from Arizona to demo and speak for
the day. His painting demo and slide presentation were
impressive. Carl will be giving a 3 1/2 day workshop
before the September OPAS competition. Artists will be
able to work in watercolors, pastel or oils. He does
it all. He will open your mind to a new way of viewing
your world, not teaching you how to use those mediums.
The excitement is growing.
In the 90's, I chaired a workshop for Carl in Central
Ohio. He was a fine teacher then, but a better teacher
now. It is my pleasure to bring this talented artist
back to Ohio and to OPAS. Please click on the workshop
flyer above to enroll in the workshop.
